Work-related musculoskeletal injuries

Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs) are cumulative traumas resulting from an imbalance between the functional capacity of the muscle and its demand. Their origin is multifactorial, which complicates the identification of the cause and its link to work (Wang et al., 2017).

The consequences are significant professionally, including physical and psychological suffering, loss of economic power, risk of chronicity, increased treatment costs, and burnout (Vang Hoof et al., 2018).

For organizations, the consequences translate into loss of productivity, increased absenteeism and presenteeism rates, compromised productive capacity and, consequently, greater financial burden (Wang et al., 2017; Vang Hoof et al., 2018).
